Wildflowers and Scenics

Lupine - #LUPI 47

This beautiful photo of lupine growing in a wild field shows a colorful mix that includes California Poppy, Globe Gilia and Coreopsis.

Shooting Star - #SHST 39

Found along mountain meadows and streams, these colorful Shooting Stars have a dark purple stamen to form the nose of a “rocket” plummeting down to earth.

Mixed Wildflowers - #WIFL 58

This wildflower photo seems to represent Psalm 65:12-13, “…the hills are clothed with gladness…they shout for joy and sing.” California Poppies headline this explosion of wildflower blooms.

Mixed Wildflowers - #WIFL 73

This photo shows the hills exploding with blooms of golden orange California Poppies, yellow Coreopsis and blue Phacelia as they overwhelm the senses with their beauty and color.

Grand Teton National Park - #GTNP 3-0455

A field of yellow Arrowleaf Balsamroot provide a beautiful foreground to these majestic mountain peaks.

California Poppies - #CAPO 2-2684

This explosion of California Poppies in a banner year seem to form a golden river coming out of the hills. The brilliant orange poppy was selected as the California state flower in 1890.

Mixed Wildflowers - #WIFL 74

What an explosion of beautiful wildflower blooms showing in this photo! California Poppies, Lupine, Globe Gilia, and Coreopsis shout out their beauty as in Psalm 57:5 “…the wilderness will rejoice and blossom…it will burst into bloom, it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.”

Black-eyed Susan - #BESU 28

The Black-Eyed Susan is probably the most common of all American wildflowers, and are members of the sunflower family. This photo shows the Black-eyed Susan’s beautiful bright golden-yellow ray flowers, with disk flowers forming a brown central cone.

Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve -
#UNB 22B

The Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve in Southern California, Russ’ home away from home, is one of the last great remaining estuaries on the west coast. Its rich nutrients attract abundant wildlife in fish, mammals and almost 200 species of birds, several of them endangered. As part of the Pacific Flyway migration route, up to 30,000 birds can be seen here on a winter day.

Yellowstone National Park - #YNPA 1-4767

From an iconic viewpoint, Lower Yellowstone Falls is seen cascading 308 feet into the beautiful Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Yellowstone National Park became our country’s first national park in 1872, protecting 2.2 million acres of enchanted wonderland.

Mount Rainier National Park - #MRNP 2-7878C

This is one of the many spectacular lush subalpine meadows that ring the Mount Rainier National Park from about 5000 feet to 7000 feet. Lupine predominates in the foreground in this unusually sunny day that shows Mount Rainier towering in the backround. The peak blooming time in these meadows is quite variable, depending on the amount of winter snow pack and the spring temperatures.

Grand Teton National Park - #GTNP 1-4316

The majesty of the Teton Range shows up beautifully with this reflection from a beaver pond in the early morning light. It would be a very peaceful place to sit and reflect on Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd…he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.”

Fireweed Wildflowers - #WIFL 40

This wildflower photo shows a field full of Fireweed near its peak bloom, with Alaska mountain ranges forming the backdrop. The Fireweed name is derived from its ability to quickly grow in areas devastated by fire.

Big Bear Lake, CA - #BB 3-0131

A spectacular sunset unfolds during the winter at Big Bear Lake, CA. The lake is frozen, so the beautiful sunset colors are also reflected there. One can’t think of a more appropriate scripture as Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

Fall - #FALL 1663

What a kaleidoscope of fall leaf colors surrounding a serene pond in New England’s Green Mountain National Forest of Vermont! The fall leaf colors are at their peak, lasting only a few days at this intensity of color.

Fall Reflections - #FALL 61

This photo shows the beautiful fall colors of New Hampshire maple leaves reflecting in a pond from the early morning light.

Hawaii Sunrise , Photo Image # SUNR 516

A breathtaking, spectacular sunrise unfolds in the sky as the sun is about rise in the east as seen from the island of Kauai, HI. Psalm 19:1 seems to say it all: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
